Tess is Fluxx Prep's virtual assistant. She'll greet you when you call, help you book a session, and narrate our video lessons. Press play to say hello. Every tutoring session is with Gus — one student at a time, from Algebra through Pre-Calc and SAT prep.

I’m a Georgetown Finance grad with 25+ years in commercial banking and 15+ years tutoring Algebra through Pre-calculus, Trigonometry and SAT Math. My journey began by guiding my son to top scores and his own Georgetown acceptance. I use a structured, supportive approach—leveraging assessments, official materials, and error logs to break complex concepts into manageable steps. Whether you want to build fundamentals or reach a top percentile, my goal is to boost your math skills and confidence!

Answer: I specialize in secondary mathematics, guiding students from the foundations of high school math through advanced coursework. I provide one-on-one instruction for Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus, as well as targeted math preparation for the SAT and ACT exams.
Answer: All Fluxx Prep tutoring sessions are conducted exclusively online. This allows me to utilize professional-grade digital whiteboard technology. Students see step-by-step mathematical breakdowns mapped out clearly in real-time, providing a visual learning experience that is often more effective than looking over someone's shoulder at a piece of paper.
Answer: A standard session runs for 60 minutes. This provides enough time to review previous material, introduce and explain a new concept, and allow the student to work through practice problems while I am there to immediately catch and correct any missteps.
Answer: My background is rooted in rigorous, high-stakes analytical environments rather than a traditional classroom. I hold a degree in finance from Georgetown University and have spent three decades in the finance industry. I have been tutoring math since my own high school years, when I competed on international problem-solving teams. My teaching philosophy focuses on breaking complex logic down into clean, step-by-step frameworks that students can actually understand and replicate.
Answer: Students should log in a few minutes early from a quiet environment with a stable internet connection. They do not need any special software—just a standard web browser to access our shared digital workspace. I ask that they bring any current homework, study guides, or specific topics they are struggling with, along with a notebook and pencil. I handle all the digital whiteboard mapping on my end, so the student can focus entirely on following the logic and working through the steps.
Answer: We do both. If a student is struggling with a current school assignment or has an upcoming test, we prioritize unblocking those immediate hurdles. However, my ultimate goal is to build long-term mathematical fluency. When we aren't tackling immediate schoolwork, I utilize my own custom lesson library and practice problems to identify foundational gaps, reinforce difficult concepts, and get students working ahead of their class syllabus.
